Meet Our Vendor: Rebekah J. Designs
We have another new vendor to introduce ya’ to! We love the work by Rebekah J. Designs and think you will too! Are you getting your shopping lists together?!?!?
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Rebekah J. and I’m a Mom & Wife but I’m also a jeweler! I love making and have been making all the things since I was a child. I seem to have passed this on to my child who has an incredible admiration for “good boxes” that make their way to the recycle bin.
I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Metals which I received from the University of Washington, studying under the talented Mary Lee Hu.
We converted our back spare bedroom into my studio and I love working where I can see and hear all that’s going on in our home.
What was your first memory of making something?
I don’t know if it’s my first memory but it’s the memory that sticks out the most. I was about 6 and my dad found some large refrigerator boxes and brought them home. We built an enormous (was it really? or were we just little?) airplane in the front yard. You could climb in the wings and there was a cockpit and a hatch out the back. It was incredible. Luckily I lived in Southern California, and rain wasn’t a factor and it could remain on the lawn for some time. The whole neighborhood came to play in it that summer.
What is your favorite new product for 2018?
We just launched a new collection – the BRIDGES Collection, and I’m so pumped. It was an incredibly fun process to create these pieces and learn a new process. My favorite piece is the Kettle. They are lightweight and super easy to wear, but they make a great statement.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
I love meeting the customers. Talking with them, telling them the stories about my work, why things are given certain names… just making that connection with them… It’s so great. I also absolutely love meeting all the other vendors. You set up in these small 10×10 squares that you make uniquely your own, but you end up making friends with the person next door. It’s an incredible environment of people who are busting their butts trying to make a living selling these incredible things they’ve made from their hearts. It’s a really connected experience.
Is this a full-time business for you?
No, but I wish it was! Healthcare is so expensive and I’ve worked for one of the best companies in the country for healthcare, Costco, for over 21 years. It was my college job and I’ve stuck with it for the benefits. Its simple and doesn’t stress me out, so I don’t bring work stress home. If it weren’t for healthcare expenses I’d love to work for my self.
Who’s your biggest fan?
I think it’s got to be my 10 year old Daughter, Luka. She always mentions to me when she sees her teachers in my jewelry – and it appears to make her really proud. She also makes sure to tell her friends that I am a jewelry designer, and still asks me to come to class and help out. For now I think I’m still cool in her eyes, and not embarrassing – for now…
Happy Monday Friends! To lighten it up a bit we have an awesome giveaway over on Instagram for ya’. Go on over there for your chance to win a pair of Kettle earrings! Can you believe THIS WEEKEND is the big show?
