Smitten: Artisan Truffles
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Vanessa, and I make chocolate truffles. They start as molded chocolate shells, each unique and beautiful with it’s own design. Then I take these empty shells and fill them with delicious chocolate ganaches, caramels and other interesting ingredients. I don’t just make truffles though – I hand craft caramel sauces and my latest, Truffle Jars! www.smitten-truffles.com
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
Truffle Jars! One of the most delicious concepts to enter my world this year – a new expression of what eating chocolate can (and should!) be like. In this case, I fill little jars with the ingredients I would normally fill a chocolate truffle shell with – but instead you can eat it with a spoon! It is instant chocolate gratification at it’s best! Come by and I’ll show you what I mean 😉
Who’s your biggest fan?
Anyone who LOVES chocolate…and caramel, and sea salt…wait, that is everyone, right!?!? Okay, maybe not but it’s close. I would also like to think that fans like coming by to see what new and interesting flavors have made in past the rigorous test batch/tasting process to come to life at a show. It is always fun to have at least one “off the beaten path” flavor that is an experience!
What’s your favorite item that you sell?
My husband is the one who really turned me on the bourbon caramel sauce. As a stand alone product I really liked it, but then he started experimenting further. Bourbon caramel strawberries…cheesecake….hot chocolate…even a steak rub. I suddenly developed a new found appreciation for the versatility of this beautiful creation. It really does make everything more delicious – magic!
And speaking of bourbon caramel, I would like to do a giveaway for one of my jars. I think it will be a fun one for the holiday!
What’s the best experience you’ve ever had with one of your customers?
One of the best experiences I’ve had was actually an email from a lovely lady who attended UCU’s summer show 2013. She basically wrote to tell me that I have ruined her for all other truffles because she thought mine were so good. It was beautifully written and really made me that much more grateful for getting to do what I do. Then, on one of those frustrating days when nothing goes right, I remember what she said…and I get back in the kitchen!
