Meet the Vendor: Vaya Bags
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?:
The last fun project that I have been working on is a mini messenger bag/ handlebar bag. It is basically a small messenger bag that has straps on the back to hook onto your handlebars! So far I have made one and really like how it came out, so hopefully there will be more to come!
What was your first memory of making something?:
When I was about 8 years old my parents decided that it was a good idea to get rid of TV for the summer, so to occupy my time I decided to make a fringed bikini out of leather scraps I found in my Dad’s work studio.
What is your favorite new product for 2014?:
The Simple Rolltop Backpack is my favorite new Vaya Bags product. It is a lightweight, waterproof backpack with a water bottle holder on the outside, as well as an outside Key ring. It also has an inside laptop pocket and other smaller pockets for easy organization!
How far will you be traveling to come to UCU?:
We will be traveling from NYC!
What do you love most about craft show vending?:
It is amazing to meet so many cool people who are just as excited about handmade one-of-a-kind good as I am! I also love seeing what creative crafts all of the talented vendors come up with!
How did you get started in your business?:
I learned how to sew from my dad who was a leather craftsman, but didn’t start making bags until after college. I was an environmental science major and I desperately needed a good, waterproof bike bag, so I made myself one. Friends loved it and asked me to make them one and that’s how Vaya Bags started!
Is this a full-time business for you?:
Yes it is!
