Meet Our Vendor: Sharon Saint Don Jewelry
We are excited to introduce you to new vendor, Sharon Saint Don Jewelry! She’s a real sweet lady and makes beautiful jewels you will love for many many years to come.
Who are you and what do you do?
I am Sharon Saint Don and I handcraft Jewelry from solid sterling silver and gold in my tiny, beautiful, handcrafted studio located in Port Townsend, WA.
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
I am working on a plan to expand my studio space using a 20’ shipping container which will allow me to increase my production.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
I love meeting my customers face to face and getting their direct feedback on design, comfort, desires, etc. I love making my customers happy- this is my job as a jeweler! Jewelry is supposed to make people feel beautiful, empowered and happy. By hearing directly from my customers, I can then know that I am doing a good job
How did you get started in your business?
I started out doing large scale metal work in college and earned a BFA in Metal design, which requires a 5th year of schooling focusing on only classes in my major. I loved using my body and strength along with larger tools to make things when I was in school. I loved working with teams of people to make things. My favorite thing to do was break up old iron radiators with a sledge hammer, melt the tiny pieces down and pour the molten iron into recyclable sand molds. But I was always making jewelry too, it was a great way to experiment and test my ideas before making large, time and money consuming objects of art. Making big things can be quite tiring and making jewelry is a more effective way to make a living. To use my body now, I bicycle for my transportation as much as I can, hike and lift weights. Maybe someday I will make some big sculptures again.
Where do you see your business in 3 years?
I see my business supporting me financially to own a piece of land somewhere in the country side of the Pacific Northwest. I would love to move my beautiful tiny cabin I built onto this land and expand it. I also want to be operating a jewelry workshop out of a shipping container or two. I would love someday to be able to host other jewelers on my land for creative retreats. I have lots of experience in professional landscaping and small scale farming, so there might be some chickens running around, kiwis growing over the shipping containers, and raspberries to eat.
What do your customers love most about your product(s)?
They love knowing where their jewelry was made and that it is built to last. I have many customers that tell me that they have been wearing my earrings almost every day for over 10 years and this makes me so happy. It is very satisfying to know that that things I make stand the test of time.
