Meet Our Vendor: Outside the Box Creation
When you come to UCU, we REALLY HOPE that you all feel inspired after you leave. Whether it’s to one day be a UCU vendor yourself OR at least just to take a crack at being creative, we believe that everyone can be crafty in their own ways. Being creative can help in so many ways and liken it to meditation in many ways. New vendor, Outside the Box Creation could help you get those crafty juices flowing.
Who are you and what do you do?
Beth Herrild, I am a local mom, artist and entrepreneur who founded Outside the Box Creation in 2016. After being an art docent in my kids schools for over 12 years I wanted to create something to give kids more opportunities to be creative, so I founded Outside the Box Creation, monthly subscription art project boxes for kids and now also, Art With friends boxes for adults!
What do you love most about craft show vending?
I love talking with everyone who stops by my booth! It’s energizing to connect with lots of different people and also really helpful to hear what they think of my products. I especially love hearing how much fun people have with the boxes!
Is this a full-time business for you?
Outside the Box Creation is my full time business. I left my job in October last year to devote all of my time to this business that I am so passionate about!
What do your customers love most about your product(s)?
Customers love the high quality of the art supplies in the boxes and also that the instructions are easy to follow and structured enough for anyone to feel successful but also include lots of opportunities for individual creativity
What’s the best experience you’ve ever had with one of your customers?
There are two experiences that stick with me. The first experience was a mom and her daughter who purchased an individual box at the Seattle Street Food Fair & Urban Craft Uprising on the first day of the fair. They had so much fun with it that they came back the next day and bought another one! The second experience was a mom who emailed me. She, her husband and their three children sit down and do the Outside the Box Creation project together every month, as a family. She said to me, “I can’t believe that at age 41, I discovered I love clay!”
