Meet our Vendor: Made In Mayhem
We are lovin’ all these new vendor blog interviews and this is no exception! Say hello to Made in Mayhem!
Who are you and what do you do?
I am Luz Northrup and I am Made In Mayhem’s founder and designer.
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
The Aloha collection is our latest collection for this Spring-Summer season and we are thrilled with how it came out. It has the most beautiful Hawaiian print and leather details, it is big enough for a blanket, wine bottle or just your work essentials. Be sure to come by the booth to check it out or visit our site if you are not in the area www.madeinmayhem.com
Any new exciting news you’d like to share with our readers?
I am excited to showcase our new leather bracelets, they will be exclusively available at Urban Craft Uprising!
What is your favorite new product for 2017?
The Aloha bag is my favorite style this summer because it makes me feel like I am on vacation when I use it.
How far will you be traveling to come to UCU?
I am flying in from Orange County, California.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
I love meeting new costumers and also seeing returning ones who bring their friends and tell me their stories about their last Made In Mayhem Purchase. The costumer interaction and feedback is gold to me.
How did you get started in your business?
After working in the corporate world as a footwear designer and developer for 10 years, I knew I wanted to build on my experience with leather development and make functional, classic accessories.
I wanted full transparency on my production and sampling process and the best way to do that was to source and make everything locally. Now we make 100% of our product in Los Angeles, California.
Is this a full-time business for you?
Yes, I quit my job in footwear in November 2015 and I have never looked back. There is nothing like doing your own thing and being your own boss.
What’s something you’ve learned through running your business in the past 12 months?
Learn what your strengths are and ask others to help you with your weaknesses, you can’t do it all.
What’s your favorite item that you sell?
Our Madison money clip wallet is our favorite item, it fits a bit of cash and cards and it is a perfect slim wallet. It is a great men’s wallet.
What do your customers love most about your product(s)?
Our leathers are always a point of conversation at stores and craft shows. The leathers are soft and yet durable. Once you touch our leathers you will want to have one of our pieces in your pocket everyday. To me the leather drives the product and I look for leathers that are made in sustainable and responsible tanneries around the world. After seeing tanneries with my other jobs I knew that I wanted to feel good about what I am selling and where it is coming from.
