Meet Our Vendor: Green Grin
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Beth and I make my living by stitching cute and functional items from upcycled textiles. I make soft toys for kids & the young-at-heart, detailed soft sculpture for collectors, and cozy handwarmers for everybody.
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
I live on a small farm in the woods, and this time of year it’s all about the harvest, and getting things in before the rains begin, and shifting from summer mode to winter. The colors are amazing and the air smells fantastic. As I write this, we are in the midst of apple harvest and cider pressing!
What is your favorite new product for 2016?
I’ve been working on some fun ideas for Play Mats with pockets that I’m excited to debut at the UCU Winter show. They are populated with my cute li’l WeeKinnie characters and the pockets are made out of cashmere: super soft! And who doesn’t like to hide/find things in pockets!
How far will you be traveling to come to UCU?
It is always a fine journey for me to roll my gas-powered chariot out of my quiet wooded NW Oregon valley onto the Road North. For some reason Washington has always seemed so mysterious and wild to me! It’s such a treat to spend time in the big city.
What do your customers love most about your product(s)?
I think my customers are drawn in by the tactile experience my products provide. It’s not uncommon for someone to linger, touching every single thing on my table! I hear many comments about the fine craftspersonship, and I believe that folks respond to the care and intention I put into every single item I create. People also appreciate that I use upcycled textiles in my work.
