Meet Our Vendor: Forest Ceramic Co.
We are so excited to introduce you to our new vendor, Forest Ceramic Co.! You’ll drool over his cool designs and will want to touch them all!
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Sean Forest Roberts, and I am the owner of Forest Ceramic Co., specializing in fine porcelain home and tablewares. I have developed a process to create marbled porcelain designs on the exterior of my dishes, giving the user a tactile and visual experience while using the wares.
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
I am in a constant state of experimentation with new projects, which is the most fun aspect of my studio work. I am always playing with new forms and patterns, so I have new work literally every week.
What is your favorite new product for 2017?
In 2017 I am beginning to make my double-walled insulated cups at a volume that can make them affordable. They are the only cup I bring with me to coffee shops, and it’s a fun conversation starter with whoever you meet along the way.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
I love interacting with customers, telling them about my process, as people have usually never seen the type of ceramics that I create. At times they recognize my product from posts on social media and the internet, and it is fun to meet people who are fans of my work!
How did you get started in your business?
I have been doing ceramics for 14 years, as a serious hobby before it became a business. I was doing what I loved, and creating new work in the studio, when the business started taking off through sales at a local pottery business, Orcas Island Pottery. People were so excited about my products, and they were selling so well, that I had to take the plunge and go full time with Forest Ceramic Company. It has been a wild ride in the past year and a half since then, but I’m still having a blast!!
What do your customers love most about your product(s)?
My customers love the fact that every one of my pieces is one of a kind, and learning about the process behind my designs. Even the patterns that I can make consistently, and market as a series, are each unique based on the way I make patterns with liquid colored porcelains. They get to look through all the available options and choose the one that speaks to them most strongly. It sometimes takes people a very long time to choose, but they find the one eventually.
