Meet Our Vendor: Elixir Fixer
We got introduced to Elixir Fixer this past summer and they are the best. Such nice people who make delicious syrups for yummy cocktails both adult and not.
Who are you and what do you do?
Based in Washington, we make small batch artisanal syrups great for making cocktails, mocktails and craft sodas. We use locally sourced produce and use fresh fruit, juices and herbs to make our products. We use pure cane sugar to sweeten and one of our flavors is also sweetened with honey sourced out of Bellingham. We are based in Bremerton and have a beautiful storefront, too and we are also sold in several retail shops in Washington, Alaska and Oregon.
Any new exciting news you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes! We just landed our largest order from Main & Vine which is located in Gig Harbor. They are part of the Kroger family. It is a pilot program that features organic produce and products made locally by various crafters, artisans and chefs. We have been part of their weekly Farmers Market and will be in their store during the holiday season! They specialize in featuring locally sourced and made products and part of their mission is to connect with the local community. We are thrilled to be a part of it!
What is your favorite new product for 2017?
This past April we launched our newest product, “Baby Maker.” It is made with passion fruit, pineapple, sweetened coconut and kiwi. It is amazing on its’ own and delicious with spiced rum. Initially, we had intended for it to be seasonal, but the popularity and demand was too great and our customers asked that we keep it year round.
How far will you be traveling to come to UCU?
We will be coming from Bremerton which is a lovely ferry ride away from downtown Seattle.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
We love meeting new and returning customers! We have the most amazing, fun and gracious customers ever. That’s been the best part of the ride so far is meeting new people from those who organize the various shows, to the customers and fellow vendors. We have made many new friends on tis venture.
How did you get started in your business?
My husband is a trained chef as well as a former floral designer and we are well known for our annual holiday party. Each year we would select a theme and the food, decorations and signature cocktail would reflect the theme. In 2013, the theme was “Downton Abbey” and the cocktail was “The Downton Fizz.” While waiting for guests to arrive my husband and I were sampling our wares and he said, “Gosh, this stuff is so good, I should bottle it!” to which I replied, “Yeah, you should!” In late spring 2015, we started product development and by fall we produced four flavors and launched our business in January 2016. By April 2016, we added four more flavors. We currently have 10 products in our portfolio. BTW, the “Downton Fizz” is Ginger Ginger.
Is this a full-time business for you?
Yes, this is a full-time business (and then some!) for both my husband and me.
Where do you see your business in 3 years?
Our goal is to be regional and ultimately, we would like to be distributed nationally. We believe that “slow and steady” wins the race and we are enjoying the ride and ever so grateful to be doing this. We want to do things the right way and ramp up steadily and meet the demand.
What’s something you’ve learned through running your business in the past 12 months?
I have learned that no matter what the problem is, there is always a solution. Plus, being my own boss is something new for me. I am so used to meeting deadlines and following someone else’s agenda that giving myself the freedom to complete and do things on my timeline has been a big learning curve for me. I tend to be hard on myself so relaxing and going with the flow is definitely something new for me!
What’s your favorite item that you sell?
My favorite Elixir Fixer is Fast Thymes as I am a gin girl. It is made with lemon juice, lemon zest, lemongrass and lemon thyme, rose water and a floral honey from Brookfield Farm. It’s delicious! It’s my go to cocktail, but more often I drink it as a soda minus the gin. It’s delicious in green tea, too.
What do your customers love most about your product(s)?
That they are fresh, delicious and super easy to use.
What’s the best experience you’ve ever had with one of your customers?
I actually had a customer stand at my booth and tell everyone that they had to try it! At first, I thought she was talking to friends that she brought with her, but then I realized she didn’t know who these customers were. She was so good at it that I told her I was going to have to put her on the payroll! She is a super fan and literally bought 8 bottles of our Almond Amore and came back the following week to tell people to try our syrups!
Be sure to follow us on Instagram for your chance to win a bottle of Liquid Frost which is seasonal and made with candy canes, fresh organic mint, Madagascar vanilla and vanilla and butter extracts! It’s delicious! Gift will also include their signature shot glass.
