Meet the Vendor: Blackwood Fiber Company
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Mia and I am the knitter behind Blackwood Fiber Co. I knit boldly patterned accessories for everyday. All of my work is done on vintage domestic knitting machines in my Tacoma, WA studio. I tend to knit all day long with my puppy companion and some good tunes, I take a lot of hot cocoa breaks, and I love watching scary movies! Find me on Etsy.
What is your favorite new product for 2014?
My absolute favorite new product is an extra long infinity scarf. I just started making them and can’t wait to show them off to the Urban Craft Uprising crowd! They’re super wide and cozy, so perfect for bundling up this winter.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
I grew up working craft shows and farmers markets and my favorite thing about them has always been the opportunity to truly get to know your customers. It’s a wonderful thing to build real relationships with your shoppers. Another great thing about doing shows is that it pulls me out of my shell a bit. My creative process can be fairly isolating, so it’s a real treat to be surrounded by so many lovely people!
Is this a full-time business for you?
Not yet, but hopefully soon!! I’m really pushing for great things to happen in the coming year. My goal is definitely to make this full time, I want to be the kind of person who gets to do exactly what they love.
Who’s your biggest fan?
Mom, definitely mom! Honestly though, my entire family is so supportive. I’m fortunate to have a husband and parents that believe in what I’m doing. My husband doesn’t even bat an eyelash when I tell him my wildest dreams, I’m a lucky gal.
