Meet Our Vendor: Bewilderness
We are so excited to have new vendor, Bewilderness! Great gifts for everyone!
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Whitney and I create puzzles! My focus is on making wooden jigsaw puzzles with challenging piece designs and vibrant art. From the initial sawing down of the plywood to the final boxed product, it’s all done in my little house in Ridgecrest.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
I love to meet all different kinds of people and talk puzzles with them. I’ve had some great conversations with people who sit down in my booth and start putting my puzzles together. Working so hard on something and having people be really excited about what you make is so rewarding.
How did you get started in your business?
I had been working in business analytics for a long time, and while I liked my job sometimes, ultimately I was just tired of sitting at a desk all day. I wanted more freedom in my schedule and to pursue something that felt more meaningful to me. I’ve always loved all kinds of puzzles. I had a good amount of savings built up, so I just quit my job and threw myself into figuring out how to make them. Why not, I figured. Making the leap was pretty terrifying, but what’s life without constantly doing things that scare you?
Where do you see your business in 3 years?
Right now I’m focused on my core product of wooden jigsaw puzzles, but I’m really excited to start branching out into other things as well. Mechanical puzzles, brainteasers, puzzles made out of all kinds of materials — I have a list a mile long of a lot of ideas I’m excited to try! In three years you can expect to see a larger variety of puzzle designs for sure. I’m leaning toward keeping my business small so I can continue to pursue my many hobbies on the side, but who knows!
Who’s your biggest fan?
Right when we first started dating year ago, I texted my boyfriend Justin saying, “I have this random crazy idea of starting a puzzle business.” He replied enthusiastically; he knew I could do it from the start. Since then he’s been there for every craft fair, every stress meltdown, and every new idea. I’m so grateful to have a partner who believes in me like he does.
