Meet Our Vendor: AWE Botanical Parfum
We are excited to have new vendor, AWE Botanical Parfum!
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Laya Shriaberg and I am a healer and a perfumer from Bellingham, a small city 1.5 hours north of Seattle. I work with plant companions through the sense of smell and co-design exquisitely nuanced solid perfumes for the dabbing or anointing. I use large amounts of many organic and wild essential oils & plant extracts in an organic vegetable carrier oil and wild beeswax. These perfumes gift us with feeling beautiful to our core. They diffuse minimally around you without overwhelming those around you and mix with your unique skin chemistry in an alchemical, empowered way.
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
I have 8 uniquely different perfume blends in my line. Now I am working on honing 5 more blends. The one called Dakini & I take around with my everywhere! It is so nuanced, intricate and multi-faceted yet blends into one synergistic whole. Among the 13 essential oils which it contains is Turkish rose, the rare yet ecologically-grown agarwood and a hint of smoke from the dry distillation of frankincense. Another new blend, called Wildflower, is based in resins and flowers from the alpine terroir of Northern California, and imparts an ephemeral youthful celebration. These new creations will be available in Spring 2018.
What was your first memory of making something?
My first memory of giving the gift of perfume was captured in a short essay I wrote when I was ten years old. In it, I wrote from the perspective of a gift-wrapped jar of perfume under the Christmas tree. I knew I was a gift to my mother and I was excited in the delight she would feel as she smelled me. This carries to my present perfumes, all gift-wrapped in orange organza pouches,
What do you love most about craft show vending?
What I love the most about craft show vending is that I get to meet YOU! IN PERSON! You are my muses and I study your intricate impressions of my botanical perfume blends. I listen to your feedback as it educates me to better understand the mysteries of smell.
How did you get started in your business?
I got started in botanical perfumery as a massage therapist integrating essential oils into my massage sessions. The essential oils would “pop-out” at me from the shelves saying “Me! Me! I want to help this client move deeper into herself while receiving your touch!”. That plant communication, between me and the plants, and the plants and my massage clients showed me, without a doubt, the power and easeful relationship between the plant and the human worlds!
Be sure you are following us on Instagram for your chance to win one 3 gram jar of botanical perfume of your choice of her eight botanical perfume blends.
