We love the designs by Appetite Shop! If you need a great #PNW gift for someone on your list, visit them this Dec. 1st-3rd!
Who are you and what do you do?
We’re 2 sisters, originally from New Mexico, but have been proud to call Portland, OR our home for the last 14 years. We own and operate a small brick + mortar shop in the middle of Portland and our very active studio is right behind the shop. The studio is visible from the shop and you can see us sewing, screen printing, potting plants or reupholstering furniture on any given day. We love houseplants, vintage decor, styling and making amazing items! We sell these things we love in our homey feeling shop. We’re constantly inspired by the nature of the PNW and of the SW. We’re currently screen printing our hand drawn Cactus print and our Monstera print and making the hand-printed fabric into a wide array of products.
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
Stockings! We know it’s early, but Christmas is sneaking up on us. We’re using a lovely selection of Oregon/Washington made Pendleton Wool for our new stockings. They’ll be with us at the show
Any new exciting news you’d like to share with our readers?
We’ve decided to stop making handbags! We’ve been making handbags for a long time and they’ve certainly helped shape our brand. It’s a bittersweet decision, but we’re ready to shift some of our focus to other aspects of our business. We’ll still be making a great selection of homewares and personal accessories to compliment the plant life in our brick and mortar shop. The good news is we’re selling the remainder of our handbag stock online and in the shop at a discount.
We may miss making handbags down the road and it may drive us to create a few special limited editions. In the meantime, we’re excited to have a bit more time to spend on some other portions of our creative business.
What is your favorite new product for 2017?
We’ve perfected our dopp kit/cosmetic bag. It’s not a completely new product, but we’ve finally figured out how to make it into the best possible product. It’s now the perfect size and we’ve lined it vinyl and added a leather pull tab and a leather handle at one end. Sometimes products go through several stages until they’ve fully realized. It’s a great gift too!
What do you love most about craft show vending?
We’ve been vending at craft shows for over a decade and it’s always amazing to see a customer come into your booth carrying a bag you’ve made in the past. Sometimes we see bags we’ve made years and years ago and they still look great and the customers still love carrying them. It’s a humbling and heartwarming experience. It’s also fun to see some styles and patterns that we haven’t seen in a while.
