Meet the Vendor: Foamy Wader + Giveaway
Who are you and what do you do?
Hi! I’m Alexa Allamano, the brains and the hands behind Foamy Wader. I make lovely delicate gemstone and precious metal jewelry inspired by the seaside. I use a variety of wire-work and metalsmith techniques to create my jewels in my sweet little studio & showroom in the Ravenna/Bryant neighborhood here in Seattle.
What is your favorite new product for 2015?
My latest collection, SIGNALS, is a new interpretation of secret-code jewelry inspired by nautical flags. Each individual nautical flag bears an unique letter and message, allowing the wearer to customize with a word, acronym, or monogram of their choice.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
Socializing! and shopping Meeting UCU fans, re-connecting with vendor friends, and supporting my fellow makers makes my heart sing. I start my holiday shopping in the summer to lessen the burden of gift-getting for both my schedule and my bank account.
How did you get started in your business?
I started as a hobby in 2007 while working for a (now defunct) bank. I taught myself how to wire-wrap in my spare time and quickly my hobby became my passion. When I got laid off at the end of 2008, I leveraged my unemployment benefits to support myself while I grew Foamy Wader to sustainability.
Is this a full-time business for you?
It is indeed! I have a shop located at 2612 NE 55th St in Seattle open four days a week Thursday-Sunday, while still traveling to craft fairs around the country, and selling online and wholesale. It’s a 40+ with a big emphasis on the +.
