Matthew Porter Art
Congratulations Sam! You have won a copy of The Thunderbolt Express!
Who are you and what do you do?
Hi Urban Craft Uprising Fans! My name is Matthew Porter – I’m super happy to be back at Urban Craft Uprising again showing off what I do. Children’s Books!
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?:
I’m finishing up the sketches for my next book set in Monkey World. It’s called The Rise & Fall of Oscar the Magician. It’s set before, during, and after, the events that happen in The Thunderbolt Express (the book I’ll have for sale at this Winter’s show). It basically tells you how Oscar ends up in the situation he does in the Thunderbolt book and what happens to him afterwards.
How did you get started in your business?
I grew up painting and drawing in a small village on the South coast of England. In 1998 while at art art school in Edinburgh Scotland I met my future wife, Andrea. We married and moved to Seattle and opened an art gallery. In the second year of the gallery I created an animal alphabet series of wide eyed critters which was featured on the back wall of the gallery. As fate would have it a childrens book publisher popped into the gallery and mentioned that the series would make a lovely childrens book. I leapt at the opportunity and my book career began!
Are you debuting anything new at the winter show?
I’ll be debuting my newest children’s book – Monkey World Thunderbolt Express. Here is the tantalizing overview that is on the back of the book…
“Enter a world where monkeys reign supreme and nothing is ever quite as it seems. When the Thunderbolt Express pulls out of the station, a pleasant journey by rail soon turns into the thrill of a lifetime. So come along, get your ticket, and join Jengo Jenkins and his Dixieland band, Oscar the magician and Mayday the detective on an unforgettable
ride.” Picture book, 32 pages, Ages 3 – 6
Where do you see your business in 3 years?
Continuing with my Monkey World picture book series. I really could do this the rest of my life and be completely happy, excited and ready to start the next one!
