Who are you and what do you do?
I’m a professional artist, designer & teacher and an amateur photographer, homesteader, explorer & writer! www.jillbliss.com
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
Until recently, I was on a self-imposed year-long sabbatical. For the first time, art making and being in the nature that I’ve always depicted was my primary focus, without the distractions of the usual 10 other concurrent part-time jobs. Now I’m “back.” – Well, I decided to stay out here in the woods on an island in the San Juans – but I’m back to the business of making products featuring my artwork.
Are you debuting anything new at the winter show?
Yes, although I hesitate to say exactly what, because I have several ideas but they’re all dependent on other jobs and whether I can get the production logistics worked out from way out here on time! But I’m hoping to have a small collection of show-only handmade goods to offer for you!
Where do you see your business in 3 years?
I’m addicted to making daily & weekly to-do lists, and historically I love to plan things down to the very last detail. But this past year on sabbatical, I challenged myself to live each day as it comes, let go of expectations, and trust that things would work out as they should. Just to try it out. And you know what? Things almost always turned out better than I could have imagined! So. I’m going to try to continue this business of living life as it comes and not make any more long-range life or business plans. “Try” being the operative word!
