Who are you and what do you do?
At Honest Biscuits, we make all sorts of flavors of biscuits from all local and natural ingredients. We start with a basic southern buttermilk biscuit and add flavors, both sweet and savory. Each biscuit is made by hand. We like to be creative and have fun with it. We love sourcing seasonal and local ingredients. Working with local farmers and food artisans is rewarding and fun.
Is this a full-time business for you?
This is more than a full-time business. I work more than 40 hours each week, but I love what I do.
Who’s your biggest fan?
We have some awesomely devoted fans. Some come to one of our farmers markets each week to buy biscuits. Others buy less frequently, but very enthusiastically. We found some very happy and vocal fans at UCU last year.
What’s your favorite item that you sell?
I am most proud of our gluten-free biscuits. I am so happy to be selling a gluten-free product that I enjoy eating even though I have no problem with gluten. They are just delicious, if I am allowed to say that about something I made.
I cannot pick my favorite biscuit, because it depends on my mood. Like a fellow vendor said, these are like my children, and I love them all for different reasons. I do look forward to some of the seasonal flavors that have come back during our second year and will be back next year.
What do your customers love most about your products?
The flavor and the texture. Even our basic Butterhole buttermilk biscuit has great flavor, but when we add stuff like Beecher’s cheese and local organic sweet potatoes, it takes them to a whole other level. I think people are pleasantly surprised with the different stuff we do with biscuits.
