Evelyn & Eleanor
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Amber, sewer and creator of Evelyn & Eleanor. E&E was started with a friend, and as we began sewing original pieces for our daughters then infant daughters, so many people kept telling us to sell, we finally did! It has been an exciting and challenging creative outlet. My background is engineering, but I have always loved creating and grew up with a mother who sewed. E&E is now a mini line of unique pieces for the small – primarily girls, although occasionally robots and herringbone for the boys are too cute to resist! I love texture, laces, vintage patterns, classic styles combined with modern simplicity and of course, linen! I use a combination of new and found materials, and love finding amazing handmade pieces from decades ago to use. Clothes are usually inspired and designed for my daughter first, then expanded on. It’s also been fun to include little handmade play items, tiny gifts, and a few vintage home decor pieces.
What’s the latest thing you’ve been working on?
With the winter just around the corner, I’ve been loving the mini peplum and bustle shapes. These have been incorporated into upcycled lace peplums, chic little dresses, and a lovely loose top. I’m excited to see the entire collection together, with pops of deep purple and peacock blue!
How did you get started in your business?
My daughter is the Eleanor in the Evelyn & Eleanor name, and she is the reason I began to sew, and continues to be the primary inspiration. One of the most fulfilling parts of creating is seeing her dancing and playing in handmade outfits. She asks constantly if I made what she is wearing!
Are you debuting anything new at the winter show?
Yes! I’m excited to be working on a few new dress and top shapes, along with leggings! I’ve worked with cottons, silks, linens, and laces primarily, but knits are a new and exciting area! They are looking fantastic – can’t wait to see them out!
Who’s your biggest fan?
My husband! He’s been a great support, and always willing to help in anyway. Prior to a show, he spends weekends full of quality time with our children in order to let me sew!
