Camp ThunderCraft: DIY Business Taxes and Record-Keeping
A lifelong entrepreneur, Lindsey Ross has been doing her own taxes since she was 16, and has never looked back! Though a self-proclaimed spreadsheet geek, she uses nothing more complicated than TurboTax and a thorough system of record-keeping to ensure she has all the information she needs to DIY her own taxes.
While she is by no means an accountant or tax expert, she has filed her own 1040s, 1065s, 1099s, W-2s, and 941s for herself and her multiple businesses for many years. This class will outline the most important aspects of your business to keep track of, strategies and suggestions for how to incorporate this into your everyday life so that you aren’t slammed with an overwhelming amount of work come tax-time. We’ll also leave plenty of time for Q&A pertaining to any of the following topics and more:
- Sole proprietorship vs. LLC vs. LLP
- Doing taxes with a business partner
- Which expenses are deductible?
- Benefits to having a home office/studio space
- Employment taxes & payroll vs. independent contractors
- And whatever else you want to bring to the table!

A lifelong entrepreneur, Lindsey Ross has been the co-organizer of Urban Craft Uprising for 12 years, co-owner of UCU’s retail shop, Headquarters since it opened this past April, and the owner of Yarnia, a custom yarn shop in Portland, for 9 years, which she recently transitioned from a brick & mortar to an online-only business out of her home. She loves finding ways for businesses to run more efficiently, and designing systems to make that happen. She also loves spreadsheets…A LOT.
On her off hours you may catch her biking around town with her husband and a jambox, catching live local bluegrass, clocking her 10,000 steps with her pitbull Tucker, or knitting simultaneously with any other activity that doesn’t require both hands.
