About our show: Urban Craft Uprising is Seattle’s favorite craft show, established in 1995. At UCU, fans can choose from a wide variety of hand-crafted goods, including clothing of all types, jewelry, gifts, bags, wallets, buttons, accessories, aprons, children’s goods, toys, housewares, furniture, paper goods, candles, kits, geekery, art, food, and much, much more.
Each show is carefully curated and juried to ensure the best mix of crafts and arts, along with quality and originality. This bi-annual show features over 150 vendors excelling in the world of craft, art and design. Over the course of its 14 years, UCU has garnered so much attention that nearly 15,000 fans swarm to the show over the course of the weekend.
Hundreds of fans are lined up before our doors open to receive our famous swag bags full of goodies from our vendors and lovely sponsors. This show is free and fun for the whole family! We look forward to seeing you!
History of Urban Craft Uprising
Some backstory about our show: Urban Craft Uprising was founded in 2005 to showcase the work of independent crafters, artists and designers — to provide a unique, high quality, hand-crafted alternative to “big box” stores and mass produced goods.
Since its early beginnings at its first holiday show with just 50 crafter booths and overflowing crowds, Urban Craft Uprising now holds the largest indie craft event in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest with its Winter Show. In 2009, Urban Craft Uprising expanded its horizons to include a summer show, which has now also become an annual event, in conjunction with an exclusive wholesale event which allows our vendors to connect directly with wholesale buyers.
New Ventures and Partnerships
In 2014, UCU began partnering with the Seattle Street Food Festival, in 2015 we joined forces with the folks at Amazon to put on a smaller winter show in the SLU neighborhood, and beginning in 2016 we began offering dozens of other opportunities to burgeoning crafters and artists in the area, including a dedicated Urban Craft section of the Seattle Gift Show, an Urban Craft Market at Magnolia Summerfest, a Fall Market in South Lake Union, First Thursday art walks all summer long in Occidental Park, AND a 4-week Holiday Market at Westlake Park from Thanksgiving through Christmas, featuring 16 rotating artists each weekend.

Beginning in 2017, we launched Camp ThunderCraft, a weekend retreat focused around educational sessions, panel and roundtable discussions, self-reflection, networking, and connecting. These intensive weekends have been a great way for our veteran and prospective vendors alike to explore their business goals, connect with each other, and learn about a myriad of different aspects of being a small business owner, while also getting to “unplug” in a gorgeous Pacific Northwest setting.
Making its debut Thanksgiving Weekend of 2017, we also launched a brand new specialty food show called Gobble Up, in response to the growing number of artisanal food and kitchenware applications we have found ourselves receiving for our regular biannual shows. It is exciting to us that so many people have made craft food their full time business, and we want to connect these makers with restaurant owners and chefs, as well as everyday consumers. By dedicating an entire show just to these special crafty folks, we’ll be able to get so many more of their products in front of the food lovers who want to find them!
Urban Craft Uprising aims to build a local (and beyond) community of artists, crafters and designers by organizing and providing events where indie crafters and artists can connect with their fans. In addition, Urban Craft Uprising promotes other community building activities, including our crafting shows, showcases, classes, events, Camp ThunderCraft, sponsorships, online presence and other local activities. Meet The Directors
Kristen Rask opened Schmancy in downtown Seattle in 2004. She started curating an annual show titled Plush You! at the shop that soon got international recognition. In its second year she received a book deal with f+w publishing to publish Plush You!: Loveable Misfits to Sew and Stuff. Since then she has come out with 7 more books; Creature Crochet, Button and Stitch: super cute ways to use your button stash (f+w publishing), Yummy Crochet, Teeny Tiny Animal Crochet, Woodland Crochet, Wizard of Oz Crochet and Peanuts Crochet which was recently written up about on Martha Stewart.
In 2008 Kristen began working with Urban Craft Uprising as the Director of PR and Marketing. In 2010 she took over the role of Sponsorship Coordinator, and in early 2011 she became the President.
Crafting and the world of craft is very near and dear to her heart. She has been a crafter since she can remember and started her first “crafting business” (where she can remember actually making money) in the summer after 5th grade. She considers herself an omincrafter as she enjoys all kinds of mediums. When she’s not working she’s probably reading a book. She is so happy to be apart of the craft community and sees her life and work as one-in-the-same.
Lindsey Ross took on the role of President of Urban Craft Uprising in the summer of 2006, right before UCU’s first show at the Seattle Center. In the summer of 2008, she stepped down from this role, taking on her current position as Director of Operations for UCU’s many shows throughout the year.
She is also the proud owner of Yarnia, a custom yarn shop in Portland, Oregon. After eight years of fervent knitting, she decided to open this one-of-a-kind yarn shop in Southeast Portland, as a creative and affordable way for knitters, crocheters, and weavers to achieve exactly the yarn they want for a project.
The fusion of crafting, getting to work with creative people, and getting to run not just one but two unique local businesses is pretty much all she could ask for. Living in Portland, she spends her free time biking, thrift shopping, crocheting, running in the rain, enjoying local microbrews with friends, camping, weaving, trying to keep up on her food blog, experimenting with fermentation in all its forms, knitting, and taking a minute to appreciate a really good cup of coffee.
